The New Asylums: Quite terrifying episode of Frontline about how growing numbers of inmates of US prisons are mentally ill: "Fewer than 55,000 Americans currently receive treatment in psychiatric hospitals. Meanwhile, almost 10 times that number -- nearly 500,000 -- mentally ill men and women are serving time in U.S. jails and prisons... FRONTLINE goes deep inside Ohio's state prison system to explore the complex and growing issue of mentally ill prisoners. With unprecedented access to prison therapy sessions, mental health treatment meetings, crisis wards, and prison disciplinary tribunals, the film provides a poignant and disturbing portrait of the new reality for the mentally ill."
Another good Frontline is the biographical piece on Karl Rove, the so-called architect of Bush's Presidency. As much as a hate the current administration I have to admit I find a sick joy in learning about the circle of ambitious people that make it what it is. They are dramatic subjects that rival or outdo any Shakespeare ever imagined. Watch the Rumsfield one if you have any doubts.
